Alternative
PV*SOL alternative for installers: Solispec
PV*SOL is strong at simulation with 3D shading and at a customer report in German or Polish. Solispec gives the installer what is not stated there: a frame and fixings to the norms, an estimate with a bill of materials and a proposal with client acceptance — in Ukrainian, in the browser.
In the browser, nothing to install, no card: the Start plan is free.
Ground frame designer
Design the ground frame for your solar plant
Solispec picks the profiles and posts, checks the frame against snow and wind to the DBN and prices it down to the last bolt.
Who PV*SOL is for
PV*SOL premium, by the vendor’s page, is a Windows 10/11 program whose highlight is 3D visualisation: shading from 3D objects, up to 7,500 mounted modules, climate data from TMY, Meteonorm, PVGIS and Solcast; the interface in nine languages (German, English, Spanish and Polish among them), reports in 24; a trial version; a named-user licence for one year. You need it when the customer expects a detailed simulation report with shading and a 20-year economic analysis.
Who Solispec is for
You need Solispec when the project has to be built and sold: a frame with the snow and wind checks for the customer’s city, strings per MPPT, an estimate at your prices, a proposal with options the client compares and accepts from a link. The interface and reports in Ukrainian, Polish, German, Spanish and English.

What carries over from PV*SOL
- 01
Equipment models: panels, inverters and batteries from the Solispec catalogue, by the name in your project.
- 02
Yield: Solispec takes it from PVGIS for the same address, tilt and azimuth.
- 03
Your prices: a price list from Excel into «My prices» — the estimate and the proposal use them.
PV*SOL project files are not imported: the inputs carry over, not the calculation.
Questions and answers
PV*SOL or Solispec for a household?
If the customer needs a simulation report with shading and economics, PV*SOL. If you need to hand over a proposal with the frame, the estimate and acceptance by link quickly, Solispec. A household usually needs the second.
Does Solispec have 3D and shading like PV*SOL?
It has 3D on the satellite image with neighbouring buildings and trees from the map and the yearly shade loss, but no 3D model import and no modelling of every object on the roof. Simpler than PV*SOL.
Does Solispec design the frame like PV*SOL?
The PV*SOL page does not state a frame calculation. Solispec checks the frame and fixings for snow and wind to DBN V.1.2-2 and DBN V.2.6-198, draws the side view, plan, isometric and joints, and gives the cutting list and the bill of materials.
Is Solispec in Ukrainian?
Yes: the interface, reports and proposals in Ukrainian, and in English, Polish, German and Spanish. Among PV*SOL’s interface languages, by the vendor’s page, there is no Ukrainian.
What carries over from PV*SOL?
The inputs: the address, the equipment models from the Solispec catalogue, the tilt and azimuth, the panel count. Solispec takes the yield from PVGIS, one of the sources PV*SOL uses too. The project file is not imported.
Do I need Windows?
No. Solispec runs in the browser on a computer and a phone. PV*SOL premium, by the vendor’s requirements, is for Windows 10 or 11.
