Alternative

HelioScope alternative for installers: Solispec

HelioScope and Solispec both run in the browser, but for different customers: HelioScope for commercial plants where a lender has to accept the yield; Solispec for the installer who needs a frame to the local norms, an estimate and a proposal for a household or a business.

In the browser, nothing to install, no card: the Start plan is free.

Ground frame designer

Design the ground frame for your solar plant

Solispec picks the profiles and posts, checks the frame against snow and wind to the DBN and prices it down to the last bolt.

Who HelioScope is for

On its site HelioScope calls itself the trusted standard for commercial solar-plus-storage design and sales: automatic layout, sub-minute simulations, production estimates that lenders accept, accuracy validated by DNV, NREL and CEC; shade reports, single-line diagrams, sales proposals; Basic, Pro and Enterprise plans with a free trial. You need it when the project is commercial and financed.

Who Solispec is for

You need Solispec when the plant has to be designed to the country’s norms and sold: a frame and fixings with the snow and wind checks by address, strings per MPPT, an estimate at your prices, a proposal by link the client accepts from a phone. A free plan and five languages, Ukrainian and Polish among them.

What carries over from HelioScope

  1. 01

Equipment models: panels, inverters and batteries from the Solispec catalogue, by the name in your project.

  2. 02

Yield: Solispec takes it from PVGIS for the same address, tilt and azimuth.

  3. 03

Your prices: a price list from Excel into «My prices» — the estimate and the proposal use them.

HelioScope project files are not imported: the inputs carry over, not the calculation.

Questions and answers

How does Solispec differ from HelioScope?

HelioScope estimates yield to a lender’s standard and makes proposals for commercial projects. Solispec designs the frame and fixings to the DBN, an estimate with a bill of materials and a proposal for any customer; the yield comes from PVGIS without a bank validation.

Does Solispec have a free plan?

Yes, Start is free with no time limit. HelioScope, by its site, has a free trial and the paid Basic, Pro and Enterprise plans.

Does Solispec make single-line diagrams?

Solispec shows the equipment, strings per MPPT input with voltages and currents, the cables and protection in the designer and in the PDF. A single-line diagram as a drawing of its own is not generated yet.

Does Solispec design the frame?

Yes: a ground truss, a flat roof on ballast and a pitched roof with fixings, with the snow and wind checks to the DBN and the drawings. The HelioScope site does not state a frame calculation.

Does Solispec suit commercial plants?

For plants up to 20 systems on a site, yes: roof, ground and flat roof in one project, the estimate and the proposal. For financed projects a simulation report is usually asked from HelioScope or PVsyst.

Which languages does Solispec work in?

Ukrainian, English, Polish, German and Spanish: the interface, reports and proposals. HelioScope’s languages are not stated on its site.
